My First Sewing Project

I am a girl who likes change. That applies to many things: photography/editing style, photoshoot/wedding locations, restaurants, clothing, date nights, movies, vacation spots, home decor… Especially home decor.

Sometimes all it takes is just rearranging the furniture or maybe putting a different photo or piece of art up on the wall to satisfy my craving for change. Sometimes it means completely redecorating a room from the floor to the ceiling (Our Living Room Makeover). Lately, it’s been pillows and curtains.

I had an idea of what I want my pillows and curtains to look like, but I can’t seem to find what I want in any store. So, I decided that I would make them myself. But I haven’t been able to do that because I haven’t had a sewing machine — until now :)

I have been dying to get a sewing machine for months and months now and finally, Will let me get one this weekend! Woohoo! I am thrilled!  We got a fairly basic, beginners sewing machine which is all I need right now. Maybe one day when I become a fabulous designer, I’ll upgrade to a super fancy one ;-)

My first project was my kitchen curtains. I really wanted some soft lacy curtains, but I haven’t really been able to find what I wanted… or at least not in my price range. Luckily, I found some fabulous lace for $1 at a thrift store on Friday! It was exactly what I was looking for! After a few short hours of stitch removal, cutting, pinning, ironing, and sewing, I finished my first sewing project! I am so proud!!! I have never sewed anything from start to finish on my own before! I am thrilled with how my curtains turned out!  :-D

Up next on my sewing to-do list: Pillows!! We already have the fabrics and everything for the pillows. I can’t wait to get started!
